FTS Spirafreeze Spiral Freezer

FTS Spiral Freezer

Why use the FTS Spiral Freezer?

The Freezertech range of Spirafreeze Spiral Freezing systems are multipurpose units for freezing naked, in tray and wrapped products rapidly and safely.

Engineered for high output and low space requirements, the spiral freezer system operates by a continuous horizontal air blast over and around all tiers.  The spiral freezers freezing action is fully efficient yet gentle, this safeguarding the quality of delicate products.

The Spirafreeze Spiral Freezer consists of a helical continuous belt driven by a low friction central drum, imparting the drive by spinning faster than the belt.

Spirafreeze Spiral Freezer Advantages:

  • Horizontal air flow for high efficiency and low product weight loss
  • Small unit footprint for factory space saving
  • Can work with multiple refrigerants
  • Designed for simple and quick cleaning and defrosting
  • Full CIP systems available
  • Bespoke design service tailored to your individual requirements
  • Stainless steel or cost effective galvanised systems available
  • Acetal (Plastic) belted systems
  • In-place stainless steel cleaning systems available
  • Single or Multi Drum Spiral freezer’s available for higher throughputs.

Packaged systems also available – a fully packaged spiral freezer supplied complete and only needs connecting into the refrigeration unit once it’s on site

Spiral Freezer Design & Build

In feed & Out feed

In feed and out feed transfer points are provided immediately external to the spiral freezer chamber.  Their position, which can be arranged to suit site conditions, ensures trouble free transfer of products from and to conveyors.

Belt

The spiral freezer belt system is designed in either an ascending or descending spiral path around a driven drum.  This imparts a continuous drive input to the belt, providing a very low tension level and low drive power requirement.  The belt is manufactured from stainless steel to ensure maximum hygiene when in direct contact with foodstuffs.  The belt runs on high density polyethylene surfaces on the support rails, which are replaceable if necessary.

Belt Drive

The variable speed drive fitted to all models enables the residence time in the spiral freezer to be adjusted to suit any particular product.

Belt Tension Unit

The belt is automatically tensioned and safety switches are incorporated to prevent overloading.

Rotating Drum

The drum consists of a central shaft to which top and bottom bearings are bolted.  Top, centre and bottom support rings are attached to the central shaft by spokes and tie rods through which the bottom ring can be aligned.  Between the top and bottom rings vertical hollow section steel is attached at 4″ 100mm spacing’s, and ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) polyethylene wear strips are fitted onto these sections.  This strip imparts the driving force to the belt, and ensures that there is no metal to metal contact between the belt and drum.  The drum is driven by a chain engaging onto drive teeth welding onto the bottom ring.  The drum is finally clad around its circumference with stainless steel sheeting to direct the flow of cold air.

Air Cooling & Circulation

The purpose built air blast system is designed for easy defrosting and hot gas or water, or a combination of both.  Air circulation is by axial flow fans fitted with peripheral electric heaters to prevent ice formation between the blade trips and the casing when the fans are not in operation.  The air cooling coils are manufactured from either stainless steel or copper, both with aluminium fins, or from galvanised steel, to suit application requirements.

Varying fin spacing through the evaporator ensures maximum operating times between defrost cycles.

Insulated Enclosure & Floor

The whole of the spiral freezer system is enclosed in an insulated enclosure consisting of prefabricated foamed polyurethane panels.  The floor is specially constructed in the form of a tank which is sloped to drain.  The floor can be flooded during cleaning without any danger of water seeping through the waterproof tank.  An under floor heating mat is supplied to prevent frost formation.

The enclosure walls and ceiling can be supplied in thicknesses of 125mm or 150mm with either polyurethane or Styrofoam infill.  The infill is sandwiched between 0.7mm galvanised steel sheets coated with white PVC film.  Painted coatings in a variety of colours can be supplied if required.

The floor is constructed from 150mm Styrofoam with two alternative finishes:

  • Mild steel sheet – galvanized or zinc sprayed
  • Glass reinforced Plastic – GRP

Belt Washer

Since one continuous belt serves the entire system, complete cleaning per cycle can be achieved from one central Belt Washer unit at the end of the processing cycle.
